Joseph Dunninger, aka "The Amazing Dunninger", was a mentalist trailblazer known for his performances on both tv and radio beginning in the 1940s.
One of the longest broadcasted radio adventures, Chandu the Magician, was a story about American Frank Chandler who battled evil through his knowledge gained from an Indian yogi.
Chandu played in the 1930s and 1940-1950s. The series spawned a movie 1932 starring Edmund Lowe and Bela Lugosi.
Chandu's powers include hypnotizing people and making them see double.
If being hypnotized and seeing double doesn't sound half as bad as what the great Merlin of legend was said to be able to do, you may very well be right,
but consider how difficult it would be to read the newspaper and sift through the ATVs for sale in the classifieds while seeing double!
George Joseph Kresge, aka "The Amazing Kreskin", starred in television shows during the 1970s as a mentalist.
Best known for his tv series The Amazing World of Kreskin, he appeared on many well known late night tv shows such as David Letterman's Late Night.
